ADMISSION POLICY

Comic Con Africa is committed to ensuring the safety of its fans.

These guidelines will, together with the other obligations imposed on all patrons, ensure that an environment, which is free from harassment or behaviour that would be considered inappropriate for a family friendly environment is created at the Event.

By attending the Event, Activations or participating in any Online Events, all fans as well as the Exhibitors and other third parties are bound to respect and agree to these Event’s behavioural guidelines, which are contained below.

These behavioural guidelines may be subject to change and failure to comply with any aspect thereof shall be construed as a ground for eviction from the Event/s and may also include refusal to any future events.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd reserve the right to admission in as far as the Event/s are concerned and should any person, not act in accordance with these guidelines, admission will be refused.

Any costs incurred by the any person in as far as attending an Event, which will include, but not be limited to entrance fees, stand fees and other sundry costs will be forfeited. Thus, for the sake of clarity, should the any person transgress any of the behavioural guidelines as set out below, he / she / it will be removed from the site with immediate effect.

All patrons hereby indicate and agree to the terms as set out in these guidelines and shall further indemnify Comic Con Africa, Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd as well as Reed Exhibitions (Pty) Ltd from any claims that may be instituted against them related to any conduct which are contrary to these guidelines.

All patrons further agrees that he / she / it will not have any claim of whatsoever nature against Comic Con Africa, Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd as well as Reed Exhibitions (Pty) Ltd should any third-party institute any claim of whatsoever nature against any patrons, or any family member, any Exhibitor, its employees, sub-contractors, directors or any party associated with the exhibitor.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd staff shall have the sole discretion in determining whether the behavioural guideline(s) has been transgressed. Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd expects all visitors, exhibitors and other attendees to comply with South African laws.

Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd as the organizer of Comic Con Africa along with its partners have a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY for harassment of any kind, including but not limited to:

  • Stalking;
  • Intimidation;
  • offensive verbal comments;
  • harassing or non-consensual photography or recording;
  • unwelcome physical attention;
  • intimidation;
  • physical assault and/or battery;
  • sustained disruption of Panels, signings and other events;
  • inappropriate physical contact;
  • lewd behaviour;
  • hate symbols; and
  • bathroom policing

In relation to, but not limited to:

  • race;
  • national origin;
  • gender identity/presentation;
  • sexual orientation;
  • body size;
  • appearance;
  • citizenship;
  • colour;
  • gender;
  • gender presentation;
  • age;
  • disability;
  • religion; and
  • pregnancy.

 

Hate symbols as well as hate speech of any nature are not permitted at the Event, including as part of cosplay, and Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd will not allow costumes that contain any hate symbols or any forms of symbolism which advocate and purport to be of hate groups, including, but not limited to, historical/comic-related/satirical costumes. Whether a behaviour or a costume violates this policy shall be determined by Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd in its sole discretion.

If any person, including an Exhibitor, engages in any form of harassing behaviour, Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd Staff will take prompt action in any form they deem appropriate, in the given circumstances, including expulsion from the Event. The said Behavioural Guidelines will apply to any person / entity at the Event. Exhibitors, fans (attendees), speakers, guests, professionals, press, staff, volunteers and security personnel shall all be subject to this anti-harassment policy and will be held to the same standards. In the case of employees of Comic Con Africa or Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd, transgression of these guidelines may result in disciplinary action which may lead to summary dismissal.

Any person attending the Event may report harassment to any representative Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd.

Should any persons be the subject of any form of behaviour not sanctioned by these guidelines, or if any person is witness to such conduct being enforced on any other attendee of the Event, such conduct is to be someone else, immediately brought to the attention of any Comic Con Africa Staff member, Security Team or a Crew Member. Reports of such conduct may also be made at the Comic Con Africa’s organisers office or information desk.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd reserve the right to contact local law enforcement, provide escort, offer a safe place or otherwise assist any person who has been subject to any form of harassment.

All patrons are hereby reminded that Cosplay is not consent.

In the event of any pictures being taken of another Event attendee, permission is to be asked and consent given for such pictures to be taken.

It will be required of all attendees to at all times act in a respectful manner towards other attendees.  

Comic Con Africa’s mission is to create a fun, safe, welcoming, awesome events where fans of all kinds can come together. It is our intention that for you to not only have the most amazing weekend ever, but to experience it in an environment where you are safe and accepted.

Note that certain panels offer 16+ & 18+ years content. Therefore, get your wristband at the badge exchange with your age verification. Alternatively, security may request identity documentation at the workshop/panel entrances.

All weapons have to be checked by Comic Con Africa/Mogull Media staff upon entering the Event.

There will be a Weapons Check Station located at the front entrance of the Event. All weapons deemed unsafe by Comic Con Africa security or Mogull Media staff , will not be allowed into the Event.

Misuse of any prop weapon, such as swinging it in a public area or causing a hazard to attendees, will result in the weapon or prop being deemed unsafe for the Event. Should a weapon or prop be deemed unsafe, it will be removed with immediate effect.

The following items are forbidden at Comic Con Africa:

  • Functional firearms (including air soft guns, BB guns, cap guns, paintball guns and pellet guns);
  • Electric current emitting devices (including tasers);
  • Acoustic or light emitting anti-personal devices;
  • Laser pointers with an accessible emission limit of greater than 1mW;
  • Realistic replica firearms (including reproduction, fake or toy guns that can be confused for functional firearms);
  • Functional projectile weapons (including blow guns, crossbows, long bows, silly string, slingshots, water balloons and water guns);
  • Sharpened metal-bladed weapons (including axes, daggers, hatches, knives, kunai, shuriken, swords, sword canes and switch blades);
  • Explosives (including firecrackers and fireworks);
  • Chemical weapons (including mace and pepper spray);
  • Blunt weapons (including brass knuckles, clubs, extendable batons and nunchaku);
  • Concealed weapons;
  • Hard prop weapons (including props made of metal, fiberglass and glass; and
  • Instruments that cause excessive noise levels like vuvuzelas, grenade whistles and grenade horns.

If you are not sure if your cosplay prop falls within the above categories or you have a special request you can make e-mail jade@ges.zone Comic Con Africa will then discuss this with the safety committee and the decision made there will be final.

Please note, Comic Con Africa & Mogull Media staff have sole discretion in any matter that it believes may affect public safety or be important to protect the integrity of the Event.

Note: For the Event, any prop that on first glance resembles a real weapon (imitation) must be checked at the weapons check desk upon entry to the Event, to be checked and tagged by Comic Con Africa security or staff.

Comic Con Africa (the Event) is a family-friendly event and as such there is an expectation of an appropriate level of dress, including those in costume.

Costumes or clothing must not be overly revealing, must not be overtly sexual or include inappropriate printed language or other elements that would otherwise contravene these Behavioural Guidelines.

If clothes or costumes are deemed unacceptably revealing or otherwise inappropriate, an attendee, which will include an Exhibitor must change clothes or modify his / her costume so that it is deemed acceptable by staff of Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd:

  • Costumes cannot promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that may appear unsafe or dangerous or any particular political agenda or message or pornography; Costumes cannot be obscene or offensive, endorse any form of hate or hate group;
  • Costume cannot defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about Comic Con Africa – Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd or its products, or other people, products or companies;
  • Costumes cannot communicate messages or images inconsistent with the positive images and/or goodwill to which Comic Con Africa, Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd or Reed Exhibitions (Pty) Ltd wishes to associate; and
  • Costumes cannot depict, and cannot itself, be in violation of any law.

We are committed to legal requirements and actively inform our visitors that covered faces are allowed within the framework of Comic Con Africa and within Event Venue. However, during the entering and departure you may be requested to remove your face covering by security for identification checks.

Comic Con Africa reserves the right to ask any attendee to remove any costuming face covering, mask or headwear if necessary for the purposes of identification.

Exceptions will be made for headwear or other clothing of a religious nature. Failure to comply with this will result in immediate removal from the Event.

Remember, naked is not a costume.

Inappropriate signage at the Event will not be tolerated.

Any signage deemed unacceptable by Comic Con Africa or Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd staff must be modified.

Inappropriate signage includes, but is not limited to, crude language, signs that solicit or advertise business or services that have not been agreed to in writing with Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd. Failure to comply will result in immediate removal from the Event.

If at any point you feel unsafe at the Event or that any of the rules have been broken, you are hereby required to inform security, member or employee of Comic Con Africa – Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd immediately.

Illegal substances will not be tolerated at the Event. Should any attendee be found buying, using or dealing in any illegal substances or narcotics while at the Event, remediation steps will be taken. If any attendees found to be under the influence of alcohol, illegal or legal drugs and are in any way interfering with other attendees and their ability to enjoy the Event, Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd hereby reserve the right to escort such a party from the premises with potentially even more severe remediation consequences, which may include law enforcement being contacted.

Theft will not be tolerated at the Event. Should you be caught stealing directly from another individual or taking items from any private or public areas of the Event, Comic Con Africa – Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd, that are not expressly indicated to be free, remediation steps will be taken, including referral to the police if necessary. Automatic removal will also be applied.

Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd and Comic Con Africa do not tolerate the commission or act of any crime not otherwise listed in these Behavioural Guidelines at the Event itself. Any person, including Exhibitors that are caught committing any crime, especially one that may endanger the safety of themselves or other attendees are at risk of expulsion from the Event and further police investigation.

Attendance at the Event is at your own risk and by entering the Event you agree not to hold its organizer, Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd, Reed Exhibitions (Pty) Ltd, partners, subsidiaries or parent companies liable for any damage or distress incurred at a Comic Con Africa event. You further agree and acknowledge that you have read and familiarised yourself with the various disclaimers contained in the Exhibitor Agreement or Visitor Ticket disclaimers, as well as the website, and any other forms or platforms where such disclaimers have been noted.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd is not responsible for any loss or theft of property during the Event. It is the responsibility of any person, including Exhibitors who attend the Event, who may incur a loss to notify Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd as well as the police of such property loss or theft as soon as possible.

Individuals under 18. No children or young adults under the age of 18 are permitted in the Event halls during build-up or breakdown hours. Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd recommends all individuals under the age of 18 attend with a parent or legal guardian, and all individuals under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Individuals under the age of 18 must obtain the permission of a parent or legal guardian before sending any information to Comic Con Africa – Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd, entering any competitions or contests at Comic Con Africa, posting any information on Comic Con Africa.co.za or related websites, or purchasing any goods online related to Comic Con Africa. The submission of information to Comic Con Africa or the purchase and/or use of a ticket/wristband to Comic Con is a representation and confirmation that you are age 18 or over or have obtained the consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you are the parent or legal guardian if a Comic Con Africa attendee that is under the age of 18, it is your responsibility to check the suitability of Comic Con Africa for any individuals in your party regardless of official age restrictions. Comic Con Africa’s on-site or web-enabled technologies, including but not limited to onsite Wi-Fi, on-site interactive kiosks, and any mobile applications associated with Comic Con Africa (the “Digital Technologies”) are neither directed at nor intended for us by individuals under the age of 13. Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd do not knowingly collect Personal Information from individuals under the age of 13, and if Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd becomes aware that it has inadvertently done so, Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd will promptly delete such Personal Information. If you are under age 13, do not access or use the Digital Technologies unless under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, and if you are under the age of 18, do not access or use the Digital Technologies without the express consent of a parent or legal guardian.

Comic Con Africa will not allow animals, except for service animals, into the buildings.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to change elements of these Guidelines and to make interpretations of the conditions listed above.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd will also be the final adjudicator in all disputes, particularly in cases where a fan’s safety may be at risk.

Comic Con Africa and Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd reserves the right to provide the appropriate remedy as a result of any breach of these Behavioural Guideline, including but not limited to expulsion from the Event, referral to the authorities and future bans.

A multi-genre entertainment, comic and fan convention

Comic Con Africa is a 4 day event celebrating comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts.  The exhibition will also feature a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including animation, toys, gadgets, clothing, collectible card games, table top games, anime, manga, video games, comics, and fantasy novels.

 

Superhero or sidekick – there will be exciting activations to enjoy that include professional gaming tournaments, other gaming activations, Cosplay Competitions, and new Artist Alley. Comic Con Africa visitors can also enjoy celebrity panel discussions, seminars, workshops, autograph and photo sessions.

 

Comic Con Africa will feature a large floor space for exhibitors, as well as the Artists’ Alley, where comic artists can sign autographs and sell or do free sketches.

We can’t guarantee tickets will be available at the door. If Comic Con Africa tickets sell out before the event, no tickets will be available at the door. To ensure you don’t miss out, pre-purchase your tickets today! If tickets are available at the door, ticket sales will not begin until 09:00AM each show day.

WHAT ABOUT KIDS? DO THEY NEED TICKETS?

Children aged 5 and under will be admitted free. Please note that Comic Con Africa recommends all children under 16 attend with an adult and all children under 13 must have an adult accompanying them at the show.

WHAT’S THE REFUND POLICY?

Tickets to Comic Con Africa are non-refundable. A change of advertised guests due to their work commitments or other circumstances does not qualify for ticket refunds. Every effort

In the event that due to government regulations Comic Con Africa is cancelled, you will be refunded or get an opportunity to roll over your ticket to the next event.

 Artist Alley is the place to rub elbows with the greatest pencilers, inkers, illustraters and writers from every corner of comics, and fan art. Artist Alley is located on the show floor. Come here to meet your comic creator heroes, chat to them, and ask them to sign your memorabilia.

CAN I BRING MY OWN MERCHANDISE TO BE SIGNED?

 Yes you may. You will be charged per autograph on each item.

 

 

I DIDN’T BRING ANYTHING FOR THE GUEST TO SIGN – WHAT DO I DO?!

 All guests have a selection of 8 x10 prints available for you to choose from. The price of the autograph includes a print of your choice.

 

 

CAN I BOOK AUTOGRAPHS AND PHOTOGRAPHS IN ADVANCE?

 We recommend you book autographs and photographs in advance, although you may also purchase them at the show if we have availability. Keep an eye on our Social media to see when sales open.

 

HOW MUCH DO AUTOGRAPHS AND PHOTOGRAPHS COST?

 Autographs and photographs vary in cost according to the guest. Please keep an eye on our social media and website where we will announce these fees.

 

CAN I TAKE A SELFIE WITH A GUEST?

 Due to limited time and the volume of people who want to meet their favourite guest, we are afraid the answer is no. We must limit photographs to official photographs only, and autographs consist of autographs only.

 

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AUTOGRAPHS AND PHOTOGRAPHS?

 We aim to have these open one month prior to the show, but unforeseen circumstances may mean that it is not exactly one month.

 

WHAT EXACTLY DO I GET WHEN I PURCHASE A PHOTOGRAPH?

 You receive a professional quality, glossy 8 x10 photograph of yourself and the talent of your choice, taken by one of our professional photographers under ideal lighting conditions.

 

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN I HAVE IN ONE PHOTOGRAPH?

 You may have up to four adults in a single picture. If you have more people, you will need to purchase additional photograph opportunities. You cannot pay an additional fee.

Comic Con Africa does not provide childcare services. Please note that all minors under that age of 16 are required to be always accompanied by an adult (that is at least 21 years old) while attending Comic Con Africa.

 

Comic Con Africa does not offer accompanied or drop-and-go childcare facilities.

 

Unaccompanied minors will not be granted admission, and will be turned away from entering the festival.

Should a child go missing on the Comic Con Africa show floor, please notify the organisers at the Organiser’s Office as soon as possible.

The reverse is true, please notify the organisers at the Organiser’s Office should you have lost your child.

No. The only animals permitted in the venue are service animals. We love animals as much as you do, but you are going to have to leave your pets at home. For more information on service pets please email info@comicconafrica.co.za

There are some restrictions on photographs. You are welcome to bring your camera on each show day as we allow photos for the first few minutes of each Q&A session. Once the MC requests that you put your camera away, you must adhere to this request as it is strictly monitored by the Comic Con Africa staff. It is prohibited to take photographs during the professional photographs and the autograph sessions.

You are welcome to take pictures and videos at the Comic Con Africa and share them on social media with the hashtag #ComicConAfrica. Please note that recording of audio and video is prohibited during screenings, certain panels and trailer launches.

Please also understand that other guests can be available for photos, but they do not have to. Guests are entitled to privacy and if they ask not to be photographed, their wishes must be respected.

Cosplayers particularly are provided with “no photo” badges for times when they wish to not be photographed.

CAN I FLY A DRONE AT THE EVENT?

Drones are not allowed in the venue.

Comic Con Africa will have something for everybody. The main areas we feature at the event are comics, tabletop gaming, console and PC gaming, Merchandise, Cosplay, book authors, and of course Artist Alley.

 

At the show you will have the chance to listen to your heroes answer questions on stage in panels and Q&As, and purchase a photograph and/or autograph from them. You will be able to browse through all of our fantastic retailers or participate in one of our specialty workshops. You can even commission a sketch from one of our featured comic book artists!

Please note that Comic Con Africa has vendors that accept both cash and card payments, however, please note that some food vendors might only have card facilities available.

 

Comic Con Africa will also have ATM’s positioned around the festival.

 

We attract local, national and international press to each Comic Con event. In purchasing your ticket and in consideration for being admitted to the event, the holder consents to being recorded (by audio, visual and/or other means) for exhibition and exploitation by any means in all media now known or hereafter devised worldwide in perpetuity. Holder also hereby: (1) releases Mogull Media and Comic Con Africa from any liability for loss or damage to persons or property, infringement of any right or any other claim or course of action of any kind; (2) authorizes and permits Mogull Media and its designees which include but are not limited to all sponsors, exhibitors and contractors to use and authorize the use of his/her name, voice, likeness and all reproductions thereof by any means and in all media now and hereafter know for all purposes worldwide in perpetuity; and (3) agrees to comply with all rules and regulations of the event. The holder agrees not to make any recordings of any kind at designated activities without the express written permission of Mogull Media. We reserve the right to deny entry or remove from the event facilities any person who in our sole and absolute discretion is behaving or threatening to behave in a manner which we reasonably consider to be disruptive of the event.

Please direct complaints to info@comicconafrica.co.za. Please use the word “complaint” in the subject line so that we are able to excalate it as soon as we see it. Once recieved, we will ensure the relevant parties are notified of your complaint.

Comic Con Africa is committed to protecting intellectual property. Selling or displaying copyrighted items without proper authorization is prohibited. We encourage all attendees to support vendors, creators, and artists by purchasing only authentic merchandise.

WHAT DOES COMIC CON AFRICA THINK OF WEAPONS AND FIREARMS USED AS COSPLAY PROPS?

At the discretion of Security onsite, the following may be allowed:

  • Plastic and Metal Shields

I AM A COSPLAYER AND ID LIKE TO BRING GUNS, WHATS ARE THE APPLICABLE REGULATIONS?

We are well aware of the fact that many visitors have guns replicas; however it might be dangerous in the venue.

Thereby, are forbidden inside the festival:

  • Gun replicas made of hazardous materials, and that can be confused for real firearms.
  • Weapons made of light wood with sharp and piercing parts that can course injury.
  • Weapons made of PVC ,3D Printed and Plexiglass with sharp and piercing parts that can course injury.
  • Replicas of blunt weapons made of heavy materials, such as metal and heavy wood.

The sale of replica will only be available for exhibitors. The exhibitors have safely pack every weapon they sell, and the visitors are not allowed to unpack their purchase inside the venue or they will be expelled. Every retorts of Airsoft guns are expressly forbidden, inside and outside the venue.

For everyone’s peace of mind, we advise you to:

  • Keep sharp and piercing weapons in their sleeves
  • Keep guns replicas inside a bag or a pack.
  • It is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol as well as glass bottles into the venue. 
 

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OF THE COSPLAYERS?

  • If you would like to take photo of a cosplayer (or with a cosplayer), ask for their permission first and respect their right to refuse.
  • If the cosplayer is eating, drinking, talking on the phone, in the bathroom, getting ready for judging, getting ready for a stage show or dealing with a wardrobe malfunction please respect the cosplayer and do not ask for a photograph at that time.
  • Cosplay is not consent. Do not touch a cosplayer’s body, costume, wig, or prop. Ask before you put an arm around a waist or shoulders. If they do not explicitly say “Yes” to your request, that means “No.”

All harassment of cosplayers will not be tolerated. If you as a cosplayer is harassed or feel unsafe please report the incident and/or person right away to security or to a staff member at Cosplay Central.

During Comic Con Africa be respectful and friendly. Our mission is to create a fun, enjoyable, safe, and unforgettable event; where passionate people from all around the world can meet and greet.

As we are ourselves passionate people, we know the importance of creating a safe place for every Comic Con Africa visitor.

 

IS WEARING OVERTLY SEXUALISED CHARACTERS AND SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES ON CLOTHING ACCEPTABLE, EVEN IF IT IS ANIMATED?

No. Comic Con promotes the festival as a family friendly event, and does not allow for clothing to have sexually explicit stills, scenes, or explicit references to this sort of content (commonly referred to as hentai).

 

HOW FAR IS TOO FAR WITH COSPLAY?

 

Comic Con prides itself on being a self-expressive festival and understands that some characters have less clothing on than others for the sake of their character design. However, Comic Con is promoted as a family friendly show and will not tolerate explicit nudity regardless of character relation. 

WHAT ARE THE SECURITY EXPECTATIONS AT COMIC CON AFRICA?

 The safety and security of our staff, exhibitors and visitors is our priority. We work closely with the venue, security, and law enforcement authorities to identify risks, assess them and develop security plans for our events.

 

Everyone attending Comic Con Africa should be aware or the following security measures:

  • Security will be onsite at all times to assist you during all aspects of Comic Con Africa.
  • Everyone must have their Comic Con Africa tickets/badges on hand at all times. This includes exhibitors, vendors, visitors, guests (speakers, talent, artists), press, staff, and crew.
  • A fully operational security team following our vetted procedures is in place during Comic Con Africa. Bag checks may occur.
  • Walkthrough or handheld scanners may be used at Comic Con Africa.
  • Any CCTV in operation at Comic Con Africa is monitored and recorded.
  • Both uniformed and undercover security may be in attendance at Comic Con Africa.
  • Canine Security and Detection may be used in or around Comic Con Africa.

 

Everyone attending Comic Con Africa is requested to:

  • Keep personal property with you at all times and to not leave any items unattended. 
  • If you see something, say something.  Report anything that looks unusual, suspicious, or out of place to Comic Con Africa staff or security immediately.
  • Remain patient and courteous during security checks and follow the instructions of Comic Con Africa staff and security at all times
  • Properly dispose of your Comic Con Africa ticket/badge inside the venue or keep it as a souvenir – please do not sell it to scalpers or throw it away outside the venue where it could be picked up.
  • Carry a valid form of photo ID at all times.

 

WEAPONLIKE PROPS IN THE VICINTY OF THE CON AND DURING PUBLIC TRANSPORT TRAVEL TO THE CON

You as a fan are able to help us improve event security, fan safety and the overall happiness of everyone at or near Comic Con Africa. If you have a weapon or prop that might intimidate or scare people, please be mindful of it as you carry it near the venue or on public transport. If you have a weapon that might be misconstrued as a real weapon, please keep it concealed and do not carry it out in the open as you travel through Johannesburg. We would hate to cause unnecessary panic, upset, or unwarranted calls to the police. We really appreciate you being mindful of this and using common sense when it comes to props and costuming!

 

WEAPONS AND BAG CHECK

Management has sole discretion in any matter that it believes may affect public safety or be important to protect the integrity of the event.

 

CAN I BRING A SUITCASE TO THE SHOW?

No. Carts and luggage on wheels will NOT be allowed during show hours. Exhibitors needing such items for legitimate business purposes will be allowed access at the opening and closing of business each day. This is a safety issue and no exceptions will be made.

 

WHAT DO I DO IF I FIND/LOSE SOMETHING? 

Please bring all found items to the Comic Con Africa information booth or Organiser’s officeOrganisers office can be located on the event map.

 

WHAT IF I GET HURT?

If you’re hurt, reach out to the nearest Comic Con Africa staff, volunteer, crew or nearby security and we will assist you in getting you the help you need.

WHAT IF I’M HARASSED?

Harassment of any kind, including stalking, deliberate intimidation, unwelcome physical attention, and physical assault and battery, will not be tolerated at Comic Con Africa. If it’s illegal outside the venue, it’s illegal inside the venue. Harassment is grounds for removal from the show without refund as well as potential legal action. We want Comic Con Africa to be a safe, open and accepting environment for all fans. If you are a victim of harassment at the show, please contact the Comic Con Africa Organiser’s office immediately.

 

WHAT MAY I BRING INTO THE CON?

It is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol as well as glass bottles into the venue. You may bring one 250ml non-glass bottle of water. Management reserves the right to check anything you may wish to bring inside the venue.

CAN I SELL COUNTERFEIT GOODS?

Counterfeit goods or unlicensed goods impact the industry negatively and Comic Con does not condone this practice. We encourage vendors to be respectful and ensure all products have the right licensing/permission in place. No counterfeit goods should be sold at the event.

CAN I SELL ITEMS OF AN ADULT NATURE, INCLUDING MATURE-THEMED CONTENT, AT COMIC CON?

Yes, however these items cannot be publicly displayed on the show floor as Comic Con is promoted as a family friendly show. You may have a sign on your stand that guides visitors to enquire about sexually explicit items, but it would be your responsibility to ensure that they are over the age of 18 by performing an ID check on site.

A multi-genre entertainment, comic and fan convention Comic Con Cape Town is a 5 day event celebrating comic books and science fiction/fantasy related film, television, and similar popular arts.  The exhibition will also feature a larger range of pop culture and entertainment elements across virtually all genres, including animation, toys, gadgets, clothing, collectible card games, table top games, anime, manga, video games, comics, and fantasy novels.

Superhero or sidekick – there will be exciting activations to enjoy that include professional gaming tournaments, other gaming activations, Cosplay Competitions, and new Artist Alley. Comic Con Cape Town visitors can also enjoy celebrity panel discussions, seminars, workshops, autograph and photo sessions.

Comic Con Cape Town will feature a large floor space for exhibitors, as well as the Artists’ Alley, where comic artists can sign autographs and sell or do free sketches.

 Due to limited time and the volume of people who want to meet their favourite guest, we are afraid the answer is no. We must limit photographs to official photographs only, and autographs consist of autographs only.


WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AUTOGRAPHS AND PHOTOGRAPHS?

 We aim to have these open one month prior to the show, but unforeseen circumstances may mean that it is not exactly one month.

 

 WHAT EXACTLY DO I GET WHEN I PURCHASE A PHOTOGRAPH?

 You receive a professional quality, glossy 8 x10 photograph of yourself and the talent of your choice, taken by one of our professional photographers under ideal lighting conditions.


HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN I HAVE IN ONE PHOTOGRAPH?

 You may have up to four adults in a single picture. If you have more people, you will need to purchase additional photograph opportunities. You cannot pay an additional fee.

Artist Alley is the place to rub elbows with the greatest pencilers, inkers, illustrators and writers from every corner of comics, and fan art. Artist Alley is located on the show floor. Come here to meet your comic creator heroes, chat to them, and ask them to sign your memorabilia.

Comic Con Cape Town does not provide childcare services. All children under the age of 13 to be accompanied by an adult at all times. Anyone from the age of 13 – 16  to be accompanied by a designated adult on site.

Find the nearest staff member or volunteer in Comic Con branded clothing, or a security guard and we will help you locate your missing party. We suggest that when you arrive at Comic Con Cape Town you and your party pick a location to meet in case anyone does get lost. We also recommend that you obtain a wristband from registration (provided at no charge) for your child/children and write your contact details on it.

No. The only animals permitted in the venue are service animals. We love animals as much as you do, but you are going to have to leave your pets at home.

Comic Con Cape Town will have something for everybody. The main areas we feature at the event are comics, tabletop gaming, console and PC gaming, Merchandise, Cosplay, book authors, and of course Artist Alley.

 

At the show you will have the chance to listen to your heroes answer questions on stage in panels and Q&As, and purchase a photograph and/or autograph from them. You will be able to browse through all of our fantastic retailers or participate in one of our specialty workshops. You can even commission a sketch from one of our featured comic book artists!

There are some restrictions on photographs. You are welcome to bring your camera on each show day as we allow photos for the first few minutes of each Q&A session. Once the MC requests that you put your camera away, you must adhere to this request as it is strictly monitored by the Comic Con Cape Town staff. It is prohibited to take photographs during the professional photographs and the autograph sessions.

 

You are welcome to take pictures and videos at the Comic Con Cape Town and share them on social media with the hashtag # Comic Con Cape Town. Please note that recording of audio and video is prohibited during screenings, certain panels and trailer launches.

Please also understand that other guests can be available for photos, but they do not have to. Guests are entitled to privacy and if they ask not to be photographed, their wishes must be respected.

Cosplayers particularly are provided with “no photo” badges for times when they wish to not be photographed.

 

CAN I FLY A DRONE AT THE EVENT?

Drones are not allowed in the venue.

We attract local, national and international press to each Comic Con event. In purchasing your ticket and in coCAN I nsideration for being admitted to the event, the holder consents to being recorded (by audio, visual and/or other means) for exhibition and exploitation by any means in all media now known or hereafter devised worldwide in perpetuity. Holder also hereby: (1) releases Mogull Media and Comic Con Cape Town from any liability for loss or damage to persons or property, infringement of any right or any other claim or course of action of any kind; (2) authorizes and permits Mogull Media and its designees which include but are not limited to all sponsors, exhibitors and contractors to use and authorize the use of his/her name, voice, likeness and all reproductions thereof by any means and in all media now and hereafter know for all purposes worldwide in perpetuity; and (3) agrees to comply with all rules and regulations of the event. The holder agrees not to make any recordings of any kind at designated activities without the express written permission of Mogull Media. We reserve the right to deny entry or remove from the event facilities any person who in our sole and absolute discretion is behaving or threatening to behave in a manner which we reasonably consider to be disruptive of the event.

The buying and selling of counterfeit/knock-off/unlicensed materials is not tolerated at Comic Con Cape Town. Comic Con Cape Town is a celebration of the best of popular culture, and bootlegs have no place in the show. Violation of this rule will result in one and only one warning. A second violation and you’ll be removed from the show.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL COSPLAY DRESSING ROOM?

Yes, there will be a Cosplay dressing room set-up for Cosplayers in the Cosplay Central Zone. These work on a first come first serve.

I AM A COSPLAYER AND ID LIKE TO BRING GUNS, WHATS ARE THE APPLICABLE REGULATIONS?

We are well aware of the fact that many visitors have guns replicas; however it might be dangerous in the venue.

Thereby, are forbidden inside the festival:

  • Gun replicas made of hazardous materials, and that can be confused for real firearms.
  • Weapons made of light wood with sharp and piercing parts that can course injury.
  • Weapons made of PVC ,3D Printed and Plexiglass with sharp and piercing parts that can course injury.
  • Replicas of blunt weapons made of heavy materials, such as metal and heavy wood.

Are allowed:

  • Weapons made of cardboard, foam, light wood, or any other non-hazardous materials.
  • Weapons made of PVC, 3D Printed or made from Plexiglass, provided the edges and points are unsharpened. The weapons allowed inside the show will be marked and only those marked weapons will be accepted.
  • Replicas of blunt weapons made of light materials. The weapons allowed inside the show will be marked and only those marked weapons will be accepted.
  • Toy guns if they do not look like real ones, cannot function, or shoot projectiles and have an orange tip on the barrel.  The barrel of all prop firearms must be covered with brightly coloured caps. The weapons allowed inside the show will be marked and only those marked weapons will be accepted.
  • Prop bows will be allowed providing all arrows have soft tips made of foam or cardboard. The weapons allowed inside the show will be marked and only those marked weapons will be accepted.

The sale of replica will only be available for exhibitors. The exhibitors have safely pack every weapon they sell, and the visitors are not allowed to unpack their purchase inside the venue or they will be expelled. Every retorts of Airsoft guns are expressly forbidden, inside and outside the venue.

For everyone’s peace of mind, we advise you to:

  • Keep sharp and piercing weapons in their sleeves
  • Keep guns replicas inside a bag or a pack.
  • It is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol as well as glass bottles into the venue. 
 

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS OF THE COSPLAYERS?

  • If you would like to take photo of a cosplayer (or with a cosplayer), ask for their permission first and respect their right to refuse.
  • If the cosplayer is eating, drinking, talking on the phone, in the bathroom, getting ready for judging, getting ready for a stage show or dealing with a wardrobe malfunction please respect the cosplayer and do not ask for a photograph at that time.
  • Cosplay is not consent. Do not touch a cosplayer’s body, costume, wig, or prop. Ask before you put an arm around a waist or shoulders. If they do not explicitly say “Yes” to your request, that means “No.”

All harassment of cosplayers will not be tolerated. If you as a cosplayer is harassed or feel unsafe please report the incident and/or person right away to security or to a staff member at Cosplay Central.

During Comic Con Africa be respectful and friendly. Our mission is to create a fun, enjoyable, safe, and unforgettable event; where passionate people from all around the world can meet and greet.

As we are ourselves passionate people, we know the importance of creating a safe place for every Comic Con Africa visitor.


IS WEARING OVERTLY SEXUALISED CHARACTERS AND SEXUALLY EXPLICIT IMAGES ON CLOTHING ACCEPTABLE, EVEN IF IT IS ANIMATED

No. Comic Con promotes the festival as a family-friendly event, and does not allow for clothing to have sexually explicit stills, scenes, or explicit references to this sort of content (commonly referred to as hentai).

 

HOW FAR IS TOO FAR WITH COSPLAY?

 

Comic Con prides itself on being a self-expressive festival and understands that some characters have less clothing on than others for the sake of their character design. However, Comic Con is promoted as a family-friendly show and will not tolerate explicit nudity regardless of character relation. 

 

WHAT ARE THE SECURITY EXPECTATIONS AT COMIC CON CAPE TOWN?

 The safety and security of our staff, exhibitors and visitors is our priority. We work closely with the venue, security, and law enforcement authorities to identify risks, assess them and develop security plans for our events.

 

Everyone attending Comic Con Cape Town should be aware or the following security measures:

  • Security will be onsite at all times to assist you during all aspects of Comic Con Cape Town.
  • Everyone must have their Comic Con Cape Town tickets/badges on hand at all times. This includes exhibitors, vendors, visitors, guests (speakers, talent, artists), press, staff, and crew.
  • A fully operational security team following our vetted procedures is in place during Comic Con Cape Town. Bag checks may occur.
  • Walkthrough or handheld scanners may be used at Comic Con Cape Town.
  • Any CCTV in operation at Comic Con Africa is monitored and recorded.
  • Both uniformed and undercover security may be in attendance at Comic Con Cape Town.
  • Canine Security and Detection may be used in or around Comic Con Cape Town.

 

Everyone attending Comic Con Cape Town is requested to:

  • Keep personal property with you at all times and to not leave any items unattended. 
  • If you see something, say something.  Report anything that looks unusual, suspicious, or out of place to Comic Con Cape Town staff or security immediately.
  • Remain patient and courteous during security checks and follow the instructions of Comic Con Cape Town staff and security at all times
  • Properly dispose of your Comic Con Africa ticket/badge inside the venue or keep it as a souvenir – please do not sell it to scalpers or throw it away outside the venue where it could be picked up.
  • Carry a valid form of photo ID at all times.

 

WEAPONLIKE PROPS IN THE VICINTY OF THE CON AND DURING PUBLIC TRANSPORT TRAVEL TO THE CON

You as a fan are able to help us improve event security, fan safety and the overall happiness of everyone at or near Comic Con Cape Town. If you have a weapon or prop that might intimidate or scare people, please be mindful of it as you carry it near the venue or on public transport. If you have a weapon that might be misconstrued as a real weapon, please keep it concealed and do not carry it out in the open as you travel through Cape Town. We would hate to cause unnecessary panic, upset, or unwarranted calls to the police. We really appreciate you being mindful of this and using common sense when it comes to props and costuming!

 

WEAPONS AND BAG CHECK

Management has sole discretion in any matter that it believes may affect public safety or be important to protect the integrity of the event.


CAN I BRING A SUITCASE TO THE SHOW?

No. Carts and luggage on wheels will NOT be allowed during show hours. Exhibitors needing such items for legitimate business purposes will be allowed access at the opening and closing of business each day. This is a safety issue and no exceptions will be made.


WHAT DO I DO IF I FIND/LOSE SOMETHING?

 Please bring all found items to the Comic Con Cape Town information booth or Organiser’s office. Organisers office can be located on the event map.

 

WHAT IF I GET HURT?

If you’re hurt, reach out to the nearest Comic Con Cape Town staff, volunteer, crew or nearby security and we will assist you in getting you the help you need.

 

WHAT IF I’M HARASSED?

 Harassment of any kind, including stalking, deliberate intimidation, unwelcome physical attention, and physical assault and battery, will not be tolerated at Comic Con Cape Town. If it’s illegal outside the venue, it’s illegal inside the venue. Harassment is grounds for removal from the show without refund as well as potential legal action. We want Comic Con Cape Town to be a safe, open and accepting environment for all fans. If you are a victim of harassment at the show, please contact the Comic Con Cape Town Organiser’s office immediately.


WHAT MAY I BRING INTO THE CON?

 It is strictly forbidden to bring alcohol as well as glass bottles into the venue. You may bring one 250ml non-glass bottle of water. Management reserves the right to check anything you may wish to bring inside the venue.

CAN I SELL COUNTERFEIT GOODS?

Counterfeit goods or unlicensed goods impact the industry negatively and Comic Con does not condone this practice. We encourage vendors to be respectful and ensure all products have the right licensing/permission in place. No counterfeit goods should be sold at the event.

CAN I SELL ITEMS OF AN ADULT NATURE, INCLUDING MATURE-THEMED CONTENT, AT COMIC CON?

 

Yes, however these items cannot be publicly displayed on the show floor as Comic Con is promoted as a family friendly show. You may have a sign on your stand that guides visitors to enquire about sexually explicit items, but it would be your responsibility to ensure that they are over the age of 18 by performing an ID check on site.

PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY

Any images, videos, recordings captured at Comic Con may be used by Mogull Media (Pty) Ltd for editorial/journalistic, archival, promotional, and marketing purposes, and may be shared on social media.

If you would prefer not to be filmed or photographed, please let us know and we will make all reasonable efforts to facilitate this request via our Customer Services team. However, we film many of our on-stage sessions and may not be possible to avoid capturing audience members. If you ask a question or otherwise participate you may be specifically featured.

It is our policy to not film or photograph specific children without their parent/guardian, however it may not be possible to avoid capturing individuals in more general photos of an event.

There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

Closing date for entry will also be advertised on the specific competition page or otherwise stated on marketing material. After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted.

No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
