Steven Winer has been in the consumer electronics industry since studying Computer Science at Wits University in the early 1980’s and has been with SMD Technologies for over 13 years. He brings a wealth of experience to his role within the company as Chief Technical Officer and Product Manager. Having started his career in electronics retail, he later spent numerous years in the importation and distribution of a wide range of consumer electronics goods. He started his role at SMD in the sales team and later moved to a role as product manager. His interest in 3D printing started over 10 years ago as a hobby and having seen the opportunity for 3D printing to become a consumer product and with a vision to see a 3D printer (or 2) in every home and office, he started importing Creality into South Africa 3 ½ years ago. He was the first to successfully range 3D printers in mass retail and it proved extremely successful. The range rapidly expanded to include laser engravers and 3D scanners as well as a comprehensive range of consumables. Creality now dominates the industry in South Africa across all categories with more than 8 in 10 devices sold boasting the Creality logo.
