Nicole Nolte is a South African content creator, professional marketer, motorsport commentator & community builder, but before any of that, she is a fan.
She creates content around Formula 1 and South African motorsport, works across social media and digital marketing, and co-founded The Purple Sector, a women-focused motorsport community built to help more people feel welcome in the sport. Her work has given her a close look at how audiences behave, what makes people engage, and why some online spaces grow into real communities while others never move beyond content.
She also understands fandom from the inside as a “fangirl”, loyal Con attendee, amateur cosplayer, and someone who is deeply invested in multiple fandoms. She knows what it feels like to find your people through a shared obsession, and how much those spaces can matter.
That mix of fan experience, creator insight, and hands-on community building shapes the way she speaks about fandom. Her focus is on what makes people stay, connect, and feel part of something, and how creators and fans can build healthier, more welcoming spaces together.
Why people don’t just want content anymore, they want community We’re all at Comic Con for the same reason: we love something enough to want to share it with other people. Whether it’s anime, F1, gaming, books, cosplay, movies (the list goes on…), fandoms give us a place to connect. But as more content gets made for algorithms, people are craving something real now more than ever, something to connect to and be part of and find community in. This interactive session looks at fandom from both the fan and creator side: what makes a community feel welcoming, what drives people away, and how we can make these spaces healthier, more inclusive and more fun for every fan. Come ready to share your own fandom experiences, hear honest creator insights and join the conversation.
