Dwain Cox

Dwain Cox is a multidisciplinary maker, designer, educator, and creative problem-solver with a passion for bringing ideas to life through a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern digital technology.

With hands-on experience in 3D printing, 3D scanning, digital sculpting, prop making, mould making, silicone work, costume fabrication, and finishing techniques, Dwain has developed a diverse skill set that bridges the worlds of cosplay, film, fabrication, and medical prosthetics.

He is actively involved in anaplastology and digital workflows for medical prostheses, exploring how technologies such as 3D scanning, ZBrush and additive manufacturing can be incorporated into the design and production process. He is also passionate about sharing practical knowledge and helping others understand how digital tools can complement traditional hands-on techniques.

Dwain is one of the driving forces behind the Cosplay Makerspace in Randburg, Johannesburg — a creative community built around the belief that access to the right tools, knowledge and environment can unlock incredible potential. The Makerspace gives cosplayers, prop makers and creators access to equipment, practical workshops and a collaborative space where they can learn, experiment and develop their skills.

At the heart of Dwain's work is a simple philosophy: you don't have to know everything to start making — you need the willingness to learn, experiment, fail, improve and keep creating.

Whether he is building a prop, working with digital fabrication, developing a prosthetic application, teaching a new skill or helping another creator turn an idea into something tangible, Dwain approaches every project with curiosity, creativity and a hands-on mindset.
