Winner of the 2025 Simon Mabhunu Sabela Best Screenplay and WGSA Muse Best Produced Screenplay Awards, writer Vicki Bawcombe is a tenacious audiovisual storyteller with four decades of experience in the South African film and TV industry.
Vicki’s training and early career as an actor imbue her writing with deep empathy for characters and their stories. After exchanging acting for writing some 30 years ago, Vicki has built a multifaceted career that encompasses scriptwriting, script editing, and teaching. She has lectured at some of South Africa’s foremost film-schools and continues to consult privately. Her recent screenwriting portfolio includes the award-winning film "Masinga - The Calling" (2024), the TV series "Die Nuusmakers" (2025), and other notable works such as "Klip Anker Baai" (2023), the short film "Bosryer" (2023), and the series "Isikizi" (S01 & S02, 2016–2017) and “Sokhulu and Partners (S03, 2017). She has also contributed to popular South African TV sitcoms like "Stokvel" and "S.O.S", demonstrating her versatility across various genres and formats.
As an experienced script consultant and film-school lecturer, Vicki enjoys combining her practical experience with educational opportunities to mentor emerging talent. Her own writing is characterised by a strong sense of narrative and cultural authenticity, and she strives to create fresh, compelling stories with global resonance.
