Charlie Stadler Martinson

Multidisciplinary Artist

Charlie Stadler Martinson is a Cape Town-based multidisciplinary artist and Michaelis graduate whose work navigates the tension between structural rigor and intuitive fluidity. Her practice is deeply informed by her life as an athlete; she translates the "flow states" of open-water swimming, climbing, and pole dancing into sophisticated visual compositions. This unique background allows her to bridge the gap between the "Architect" and the "Expressionist" - mapping the raw, kinetic sensations of the human body onto disciplined frameworks of anatomy and spatial design.

As a singer, Martinson further expands her exploration into the emotional architecture of sound, layering the visceral impact of voice onto her visual and physical work. Her current practice is evolving toward immersive and interactive exhibits, seeking to create sensory environments that merge the tactile with the temporal. From fine art painting to hosting First Thursdays Figure Drawing, Martinson’s work remains a continuous study of the architecture of the sublime, inviting the audience to inhabit the underlying order within the wildness of human experience
