AYODIMEJI (DEE) BIOBAKU

jUDGE

[Freeze frame] Hi there, Ayodimeji Biobaku here, but you can call me Dee. I’m sure you’re wondering how I got here, well it’s kind of a boring story so I’ll make it quick.

[Cue rewind sounds] Well it all began a few years back when I worked as an Engineer for a drone company and a friend I made at that job was (and still is) into cosplay. She exposed me to the art and gave me a huge appreciation for it. One part that stuck with me, in particular, was prop and electronic work which I’ve gone on to use for my Pole routines. Oh, right, I’m also a competitive pole athlete.

[Fast forward effect] The same friend who introduced me to cosplay was also integral in encouraging me to compete in pole sports, last year I competed in the pole sports world championship where I competed in the 30+ men’s artistic category representing Nigeria and earned myself a Bronze medal. That was exhilarating, Pole sports has been one of the most exciting things I’ve discovered since I started doing Photography. Oh yeah, photography…

[Rewind sounds] Are you getting whiplash? Good, it’s the only way I can make this interesting enough. Cosplay and Artistic photography are some of my favourite things to do, I love the subtle combination of visual and performance art that is embodied in the medium.

[Unfreeze frame] So here I am, on this panel of judges, oh, I’ve been here before two years back, I would rewind to that but I’ve maxed out my time jumps. All I can say is I’m excited for this year’s Comic-Con and seeing all the wonderful things the contestants are going to be creating.

JONATHAN DE KLERK

JUDGE

My name is Jonathan De Klerk, and I am the creative design lecturer at STADIO School of Fashion. This role allows me to merge my passions for theoretical understanding, academic research, and creativity. My fascination has always centred on the intricacies of how clothing is made—how designers transform fabric into wearable art and how ideas are translated into creativity. This cognitive approach to creating something aesthetically pleasing is, to me, the essence of how fashion design should be taught.

My expertise spans across creative design, where I emphasize thinking about design innovatively, pattern design, which involves creating two-dimensional blueprints, and garment construction, the process of turning these blueprints into three-dimensional outcomes.

On a lighter note, once a month, I enjoy dancing in the full moonlight while my cat watches me, a quirky ritual that, though reminiscent of the proverbial witches of Salem, is purely my own.
