ABOUT CCA Sew-a-thon
Comic Con Africa Sew-a-thon 2022 is brought to you by Brother South Africa and hosted by STADIO School of Fashion.
The 8-hour Sew-A-Thon will be broadcasted live on YouTube with contestant interviews throughout the event.
While we wait to get back to our fans and the festival in September, we want to challenge our fellow fans that like to create costumes and cosplays to join us for a Sew-a-thon to flex those sewing machines and stand a chance to win with Brother & STADIO School of Fashion.
Each contestant will have the main challenge in designing and creating an outfit with an additional side challenge that will take place during the sew-a-thon to give you the opportunity to win epic prizes.
Beginners,intermediates, advance/professional sewist as well as cosplayers, can come join in on this fun challenge.
MEET THE Sew-a-thon CONTESTANTS

inxie Cosplay is a local cosplay professional with experience competing in both national and international cosplay competitions. She is a self-taught seamstress with a love for all things geek, gaming and anime and she has made costuming a full time passion and career. She’s won multiple competitions over the past 7 years in various local event categories, from sewing to prop/armor fabrication. Overseas, she has represented South Africa in the World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya, Japan in 2018, and she took home the title of Crown Champion in the C2E2 Championship of Cosplay in 2020.
Jinxie Cosplay was the 2019 Comic Con Africa Champion of Cosplay.
Sew-a-thon JUDGES
These 5 judges will be joining us on the Sew-a-thon day and will be spending time with contestant to judge their innovative ideas, sewing skills and overall design.


Ludus Cosplay is a Cape Town based, full time fabricator and cosplayer with over 12 years experience in the costume industry. He enjoys gaming, anime, movies, trading card games and anything geek related. When he’s not working on his own costumes or in the film industry, he creates tutorials and educational content to help spread knowledge and support to other artists. Ludus Cosplay is also the current reigning regional Comic Con Cape Town cosplay champion.

Chenelle van Wyk is the Sewing and Craft executive at Brother South Africa since 2018 and Studying Product Management at the University of Cape Town.
Chenelle was taught by her grandmother and has been sewing ever since. Her love for sewing grew into a passion for embroidery and digitising as well.
Her passion for wildlife is not only shown through her feisty personality but also in her embroidery work.
With a decade of experience lecturing in fashion education and currently working as the Discipline Leader for Design at the STADIO School of Fashion, Terese Potgieter has extensive experience and knowledge in the field of fashion design.
She started her career after being invited to showcase her graduate collection at the Audi Joburg Fashion Week as part of the New Generation competition in 2010.
Based on the exposure gained from the competition, Terese then launched her own clothing label Nooi which she ran for several years as both the designer and production manager.
However, it was in education that she discovered her true passion as she has a love for knowledge and creative problem solving and thoroughly enjoy working with people.

Patrick Brill started with LISOF (now STADIO School of Fashion) in 1995 as a senior lecturer at third year level and served as a major contributor in the development of the existing Pattern Design and Garment Construction curricula.
Prior to joining LISOF, Patrick acquired 20 years of design and technical experience working in a variety of fashion industry fields.
He established hands-on knowledge through practicing in the design and manufacture contexts of high-end brand collections, wardrobe and special occasion pieces for individual clients, seasonal consignments for boutiques and dance revue costumes.
Sew-a-thon COMPETITION DETAILS & PRIZES
COMPETITION BRIEF
Each contestant will receive a mystery material pack prior to the briefing session on the 30th May 2022.
In this briefing session the theme will be announced and further judging criteria will be explained.
BEFORE THE EVENT
Once you received your mystery material pack you need to prepare the following prior to the Sew-a-thon day and these items will form part of the final judging scores. (1.5 weeks preparation time)
- Story board
- Each contestant must create a story board that explains what research was done and how they designed their outfit, which will then be brought with them on the event day for judging.
- Pattern
- Each contestant must create their own pattern for their outfit and must bring the pattern with for the competition.
- Garment
- Each contestant must have all the garment pieces fully prepared but NOT finished/assembled. The different elements may be cut out with completed seams but cannot have any finishing details.
- The assembly of the outfit can only be done during the allocated competition times.
Failure to follow the points mentioned above will result in disqualification or a deduction in points.
